Our resident optometrist, Dr. Murtaza Jafferji (aka, Dr. J) has been practising optometry since 2007 here in the Greater Toronto Area. He received his undergraduate degree from McMaster University and his doctorate in Optometry from the State University of New York where he completed his residency externship in ocular disease.
Dr. Jafferji was raised in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania and had wanted to enter a health profession since childhood. His heart really opened up to vision and eye care when he had volunteered at a Lions Club Eye Camp at a remote village in Tanzania. He now volunteers his time to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and has participated in the Ride for Heart along Gardiners and 404. His goal is to one day participate in the Cure for Cancer Ride to Niagara and run an IronMan.
Since his childhood days as boy scouts, he enjoys being physically active through sports and other various outdoor activities. His interests are in woodworking, photography, cooking and fashion design. He is fluent in English, Hindi, Urdu, Panjabi, Gujrati and Swahili. Dr. J and his wife are proud parents of two young sons. Treating patients and clients the way he would like to be treated is his guiding principle.
